The founding principle of all the activities of Zdenek and Michaela Bakala is, truly, the courage, which must, according to their belief, always go hand in hand with responsibility.

I was raised in a city called Pardubice in Eastern Bohemia. Since my childhood I have had the opportunity to travel to many parts of the world and to be exposed to various cultures. This might have been the prerequisite that influenced me when I decided which grammar school I should choose. Early on, interest in languages and international relations fully attracted my attention. After graduating from the Mozartova grammar school in Pardubice I started my university studies in International Relations at the University of Economics, Prague. I particularly became interested in multilateral diplomacy (also thanks to UN simulations) and issues related to China´s foreign policy.

After studying Chinese for 2 years in my free time, I applied and was admitted to Tsinghua University in Beijing enabling me to improve my language skills and obtain practical skills in the field of diplomacy. In addition to my professional experience (internships at the Czech Embassy in Beijing and United Nations Development Programme) I became fond of Chinese cuisine and culture. After returning to Prague I was fully devoted to finding a suitable master's program that would allow me to become an expert in the field of international affairs.

Pursuing a master's degree in International Affairs at the Graduate Institute in Geneva is a dream coming true. Only with the generous support of the Fondation Zdenek et Michaela Bakala and my family am I able to begin my studies in September 2013. I will do my best to live up to and hopefully exceed the expectations of Mr. Bakala´s Foundation.
