The founding principle of all the activities of Zdenek and Michaela Bakala is, truly, the courage, which must, according to their belief, always go hand in hand with responsibility.

I graduated in 2012 from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland with a B.Sc. in Microengineering. Since then, I have been pursuing an M.Sc. at EPFL and have devoting most of my studies to applications of nano- and micro-technologies in implants to help patients whose nervous system have been damaged by diseases such as Parkinson's and who suffer from paralysis, deafness or blindness. Thanks to the Zdenek and Michaela Bakala foundation, I will complete my master's thesis at Harvard Medical School and the Massachussetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in the Spring of 2014. I will be working on implants to provide hearing aids for patients with a damaged auditory nerve. I am also very interested in entrepreneurship and in discovering and learning from new and highly ambitious projects by biotechnology start-ups. In my free time I enjoy amateur and semi-professional filmmaking.
