The founding principle of all the activities of Zdenek and Michaela Bakala is, truly, the courage, which must, according to their belief, always go hand in hand with responsibility.

Report

Throughout my life, I have always been particularly drawn to understanding the economy and financial markets - whether as an avid reader of financial press, or as the senior editor of my high school’s business and economics magazine “Money Matters”.

This intellectual curiosity led me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Economics at the University of St. Gallen, where I specialised in macroeconomics and international economics. However, an academic passion for economics does not automatically translate into professional ambitions in this field.

Thus, I completed an internship at UBS, where I truly discovered an interest in equity research and corporate finance. This experience fuelled my motivation to pursue a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance at the University of St. Gallen.

Apart from my studies, I am a motivated tennis player and have also devoted one year to organise the St. Gallen Symposium, one the largest student-run business conferences in the world.

In Fall 2015, I will be spending a semester in the MBA program at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business – a school with renowned faculty in the area of finance. I am eternally grateful to the Zdenek and Michaela Bakala Foundation for supporting me in this endeavour.
