After my Bachelor education in Mechanical Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, I took the opportunity to continue my course of studies in the emerging field of Micro- and Nanosystems. This specialized Master’s program deals with engineering at very small dimensions. I am particularly fascinated by the wide variety of applications as well as the multidisciplinarity of the field. The development of sensors, for example, involves not only physics and chemistry but also mechanics, electronics and computer based simulations.

As final part of my studies I will have the exciting opportunity to work for nine months as Visiting Student Researcher at the University of California Berkeley in the research group of Professor Maboudian. UC Berkeley is a world leading institution in the field of microsystems and nanotechnology and I will strongly benefit from the outstanding academic experience at this top-ranked university. My research project in Berkeley includes the development of a silicon nanowires based solar cell with integrated energy storage capability.

In parallel with my studies, I active play in my hometown’s soccer club. As part of the leading committee I am additionally responsible for several events during the year.
