The founding principle of all the activities of Zdenek and Michaela Bakala is, truly, the courage, which must, according to their belief, always go hand in hand with responsibility.

Report

After travelling to Africa for humanitarian mission following my high school graduation, I decided to become surgeon. During my third year of medicine, I discovered the infinite and amazing world of neurosciences and began to study this. For me it became clear that the only way to bridge these two interests was to become an academic neurosurgeon.

To achieve this objective, I did several internships including one at the department of fundamental neuroscience in Geneva, and in neurosurgery at various hospitals. Finally, I became an associate scientist in the field of neuropathology at Yale University for one year. My first stay at Yale was incredibly fulfilling and gave me new opportunities. As a result, the Geneva neurosurgery department decided to send me to study genetics at the Yale neurosurgery department for 2 years. Going to Yale will help me to deepen my knowledge in basic science and medicine and will be a stepping stone for my academic career.

I am very grateful to the Zdenek and Michaela Bakala Foundation for allowing me to further my education at one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
