The founding principle of all the activities of Zdenek and Michaela Bakala is, truly, the courage, which must, according to their belief, always go hand in hand with responsibility.

Report

After high school, I first started studies in physics and mathematics at ETHZ, but I soon realised that my interest in economics was stronger than in pure mathematics. Hence I joined the University of Geneva where I obtained my Bachelor of Science in economics in 2015. During my final year, I had the chance to take part in the exchange program offered by the University of Geneva and spent two semesters at McGill University. This international experience was culturally rewarding and motivated me to join the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) where I am now a candidate for the Master in International Economics. I specialize in macroeconomics and international finance with a strong interest for financial markets and monetary policy. My mathematical background allows me to look at economic problems with a rigorous eye, and complements the experience with economic tools I obtained at the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute.

Being passionate about new international experiences, I naturally decided to participate in the exchange program offered by the Graduate Institute and was selected to spend my third semester at Yale University. I will thus have the opportunity to join one of the top programs in economics and attend courses taught by world renowned professors who work at the cutting edge of research. I will take this chance to deepen my knowledge in macroeconomics and finance, as well as broadening my horizons.

I am infinitely grateful to the Fondation Zdenek et Michaela Bakala that supports me and strongly helps me reach my goals. Thanks to this precious support, I have the privilege to fully concentrate on my studies.
